Refurbishment Project
Thanet Crematorium
Client: Thanet District Council
Approximate value: £1.6M
Thanet Crematorium at Margate in Kent was constructed in 1966 and had not been substantially refurbished since it opened.
Rose Project Management was appointed by Thanet District Council to conduct a Feasibility Study to fully explore refurbishment options, establishing the viability and cost of each.
Rose Project Management worked with Thanet District Council and their Operations team on site to devise a specification that met Thanet Council's future needs (including on-going maintenance) and which could be delivered without a reduction in operational capacity throughout the refurbishment works.
Rose Project Management was formally appointed to deliver the construction phase of the refurbishment and work began on site later that same year.
Works included:
- Decommissioning and removal of the existing Cremators
- Installation of 2 x new cremators with full abatement
- Construction of a new Control Room
- Improved staff facilities
- New central heating, back up generator and CCTV system
- Complete Chapel refurbishment including new catafalque and pews
- Installation of a new coffin cold-storage unit
