Refurbishment Project
Bournemouth Crematorium
Client: Bournemouth Borough Council
Approximate value: £2.25M
Bournemouth Crematorium was constructed in 1938 and is one of the busiest crematoria in the UK handling around 3400 services a year.
The brief was to upgrade the crematorium at Bournemouth to include a full abatement system in order to achieve PG5/2 (12) Compliance, without any significant reduction in operational capacity.
Rose Project Management worked with Bournemouth Borough Council and the appointed Main Contractor to specify, procure and install a fully compliant abatement system that was compatible with the existing cremators.
Owing to the constraints of the space Rose Project Management devised a solution to construct an extension to accommodate the additional equipment in a manner that was architecturally sympathetic, while remaining cost effective.
Works included:
- An extension to create a first floor to house the new abatement system above the existing basement Crematory (which remained operational throughout)
- The design and construction of a new internal access route from the basement to the new first floor
- Close liaison with the on-site Operations Team and the Main Contractor to ensure continuity of service throughout the project
