Refurbishment Project
Robin Hood Crematorium
Client: Solihull Metropolitan Council
Approximate value: £1.7m
Robin Hood Crematorium originally opened as a cemetery chapel in 1931, later adapted into a crematorium in 1958.
The brief was to install new cremators, improve ventilation, provide new control room and staff welfare areas, extend and refurbish the chapel and improve access to the chapel within a closure period of 21 weeks.
The entire chapel was also refurbished to include new flooring, pews, lectern, catafalque, lighting and re-decoration. The lobby extension, and external area, was also fitted with speakers to allow flexibility for larger funerals.
Rose Project Management appointed and managed a multi-disciplinary team, working with the Client, to ensure that all aspects of the re-design not only complimented the existing building but also improved the operational aspects of the facility.
Rose Project Management also fully project managed the entire construction period to a successful, on time and on budget completion in November 2017.
Works included:
Complete re-design of the entire building, including the addition of 3 extensions
- Removal and replacement of 3No. cremators
- Design and installation of a complete ventilation system
- Improved staff facilities, including new control room, ash processing and welfare
- Re-design of roads and pathways to improve DDA access
